Sycamore is suitable for all wand sizes from 6 inches to staffs. It can be quite a knobbly wood on thinner branches and can be difficult to get perfectly straight wands naturally from this material, however it is possible to make a straight wand on a lathe, this will cost extra though.
Bark will be removed unless I am asked to leave it.
Stripped Bark
The body will then be sanded to a glossy smooth finish allowing any grain and knot features to be seen. This option is also ideal if you are considering to have pyrographed symbols on the wand body. It is considered by some that by removing the bark you loose some of the properties of the wand material. I feel it is very important that a wand of this style be waxed or varnished to protect the wood which will taint extremely easily.

Bark left on
The bark is left as natural as possible, any branch intersections are left as close to the main body as possible and sanded down smooth. Contrary to the statement above some feel that by not allowing the wood below the bark to be exposed it can affect the properties of the wand. The wood is still recommended to waxed or varnished.

Braid
I am not happy to ship a wand without braid, especially at the tip as this helps to strengthen a wand. If no braid is selected I will use a braid of a colour I feel is suitable from the economy braid range.

I will ship a wand with no braid if this is specifically asked for and the possible consequences of not having braid are understood.
